Derwent Inktense pencils are intensely coloured and translucent ink pencils. These versatile pencils are perfect for watercolour works, stamping, and manga drawing. The colours can be used like normal coloured pencils, but if the drawn line is brushed with a water-dampened brush, the surface transforms into a watercolour-like finish. Once dry, this watercolour-like surface becomes waterproof. Because the wetted colour layer dries to be waterproof, these pencils are ideal for layered watercolour work.

Due to the water resistance of the colours, Inktense colours can also be used on various porous surfaces: ceramics, wood, and fabric. Inktense colours on fabric can withstand hand washing in water below 30 degrees Celsius (washing without harsh detergents).
