Fairies have appeared in several of Virpi Pekkala's illustrations over the years. "Fairies often pop into my pictures all by themselves - in summer and Christmas cards, Advent calendars, and most recently in the 2022 wall calendar. Fairies skate in the reeds in January, swim in the pond in July, retreat to their winter den in November, and light candles with the elves in December."
